Olivia Munn reveals she had a hysterectomy amid breast cancer battle

Olivia Munn is opening up further about her health journey.
In an interview with Vogue published Sunday, the "X-Men: Apocalypse" actress, 43, revealed she had a hysterectomy amid her battle with breast cancer. Munn told the magazine she underwent the procedure to remove her uterus last month.
"I have now had an oophorectomy and hysterectomy," she shared. "I took out my uterus, fallopian tubes, and ovaries."
Munn explained that as part of her breast cancer treatment, she was prescribed Lupron, which suppresses estrogen. But she told Vogue she experienced "next-level, debilitating exhaustion" as a side effect of the drug. "I would wake up in the morning and almost immediately need to get back into bed," she recalled. After looking for an alternative to taking Lupron, Munn decided to undergo a hysterectomy.
"It was a big decision to make, but it was the best decision for me because I needed to be present for my family," Munn said, noting that she wanted to ensure she didn't miss any of her son Malcolm's childhood.

Munn also revealed that she froze her eggs for a third time after receiving her breast cancer diagnosis, as she and her partner John Mulaney may want to have more children. The couple welcomed their son Malcolm in 2021.
"After my diagnosis, we decided to try one more round of egg retrievals and hoped it was a good month," Munn told Vogue. "John and I talked about it a lot and we don't feel like we're done growing our family, but didn't know if I would have to do chemotherapy or radiation."

Munn added that she and Mulaney "just started crying" after hearing back that they had two healthy embryos. "This journey has made me realize how grateful I am to have options for not only fighting cancer, but also having more children if we want, because I know a lot of people don’t have those options," she said.

Olivia Munn revealed she was diagnosed with 'aggressive' breast cancer in March
Munn first revealed her breast cancer diagnosis in an Instagram post in March, sharing at the time that she had undergone four surgeries in the previous 10 months. She said that she had been diagnosed with Luminal B cancer, an "aggressive, fast moving cancer" in both breasts, two months after having a normal mammogram. Munn's diagnosis came after her OB-GYN sent her to get an MRI because her breast cancer risk assessment score gave her a lifetime risk of 37%. She subsequently received a double mastectomy.
"I'm lucky," Munn wrote in March. "We caught it with enough time that I had options. I want the same for any woman who might have to face this one day."
In April, Munn told People magazine that she was diagnosed with breast cancer two weeks before she was set to begin shooting a movie in Germany.
"You realize cancer doesn't care who you are; it doesn't care if you have a baby or if you don't have time," she told the outlet. "It comes at you, and you have no choice but to face it head-on."
